Hello, and welcome to our little corner of the internet!

Here at Motion Dance Centre our staff, students and parents are always on the go. Or as we like to say; in motion.

The staff is constantly working to create both material for students to learn, and opportunities for students to perform. We wanted to create a place where we could keep our Motion Dance family informed and involved in the process. Too often, an email can go missed, so we suggest bookmarking this page and checking back often, as we will be using this space to post event information, technique tips, and an inside look at the behind the scenes of Motion Dance Centre.

For those who are here reading who are not a current student, you may be wondering; what makes Motion so different from other studios? We like to think it is our four guiding principles. Our studio is built on technique, teamwork, passion and community.

A good dance teacher requires a strong foundation in technique, and engaging and dynamic style of teaching, and a passion for dance. Our teachers have these three factors, and have worked to create an environment with a strong sense of community and of inclusiveness. We give the same level of attention to our most junior dancers as we do our most senior. We believe that every dancer has a place, and every person has a dancer inside of them waiting to come out.

We will be recognizing one competitive dancer and one recreational dancer who exemplifies these four guiding principles on our blog each month, beginning October 2017.

Check here often for updates on our fundraising efforts for our New York City trip where our dancers will performing in Times Square for International Dance Day, July 2018.

ADAPT Teacher Training School

WOW! What a week we had at Year One of the ADAPT TTS program. Spending the week training with Mr. and Mrs. Foley and their associates was a wonderful experience and we cannot wait to get back into the studio to share all the knowledge we have learned.

Miss Barb taught us so many new tap techniques, Miss Jan showed us some eye opening new methods to teach jazz technique, and Miss Gwen had so many great music picks that have helped us switch up our fall playlists. We also got to spend the week making friendships with teachers and studio owners around the country, and expanding our #dancefam. We met up with several other local Halifax studios and got to collaborate with Element Dance Studio, Arie Dance Company and Sambro Loop Dance School.

We also had the opportunity to take a master class with LINDA GARNEAU! We quickly remembered what it was like to be a student in class, learning choreography at a fast pace, and trying to work your brain and body at the same time. Dance is such a workout for your entire body, mind and soul.

We spent 7 straight days immersed in the ADAPT method, and we have so many new tips and tricks to show our students. Miss Sara and Miss Serena spent many long nights planning our lessons, and creating a new Teacher’s Assistant manual to help our assistant’s who aspire to one day be teachers.

We did have some fun though – we explored the area around Performing Dance Arts, where we were taking our course, and found this fun fishtank inside a store!

Even Miss Sara’s tiny dancer was showing off her arabesque in the hotel room!

The experiences we had were life changing, and we can’t wait to share them all with our #MDCfam in September. There is still time to join us – visit www.motiondancecentre.ca/registration.html to register today!!
